Sweet Perfume

“Ladies, a man will never remember your handbag, but he will remember your perfume,” said Olivier Creed. That’s actually not too far-fetched. Gentlemen, there’s one for you too; Tom Ford said, “Good manners and good cologne is what transforms the man into a gentleman!” haha – Ok, that one may be a little ways off. Whatever is your take on perfumes or colognes, we all can agree that they can be pricey, and intoxicatingly pleasant to the nose. One of the most expensive perfumes in the world is Shumukh; costing a whopping $1.29 Million – not per barrel, not per gallon, not per quart, not per pint – per ounce. Well, the disciples didn't like the fact that Mary 'wasted' precious oil on Jesus' feet. Mary heard all their criticisms, she even feared her sister would have embarrassed her; she heard their mockery, but, Mary didn't care. There was a yearning desire in her heart to show love and appreciation to her Savior. Mary knew not the full significance of her deed of love. She could not answer her accusers. She could not explain why she had chosen that occasion for anointing Jesus. With tears of repentance she washed Jesus' feet with all the money she had bottled in a flask, and wiped his feet with her hair. Her action was that of heartfelt courtesy.  
The desire that Mary had to do this service for her Lord was of more value to Christ than all the precious ointment in the world, because it expressed her appreciation of the world's Redeemer. It was the love of Christ that constrained her.
How much would you spend to show your appreciation to a King who became a servant and a Saint who became a sinner – all for you? Doesn’t matter if you got Him a barrel of Shumukh, all He asks of us is to let Him into the chambers of our hearts- from which will flow the sweetest aroma that money cannot buy.
Christian Dior asked his perfume chemists to make him a “perfume that smells like love,” they should have given him Jesus!
